Bruce Duane Head

Bruce Duane Head, age 68, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bruce was born to Wayne and Wanda (Lewis) Head on March 1, 1955, in Iowa City, Iowa.  He graduated from Saydel High School before going on to enlist in the U.S. Navy and faithfully serving his country before being honorably discharged on June 12, 1975.

Bruce was a truck driver for most of his working career.  He enjoyed watching cowboy movies, camping, fishing and bird watching.  Bruce also enjoyed rooting on the Kansas Chiefs and watching NASCAR. He was very particular with his yard, keeping it immaculately manicured. 

Bruce was a very loving and compassionate person, up until the end; giving the gift of life to others via organ donation.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife Myrna Head; son-in-law Brandon Seawel; sisters Brenda (Jerry) Norstrude and Sheila Strickland and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sons Bruce Jr. and Chris Head and step-children Jonathan Dowie and Shellby Dowie.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with military honors rendered at 11:30 a.m., at AmVets Post #2, 2818 5^th Avenue, Des Moines.  Memorial donations may be directed in Bruce’s memory to the family; c/o Myrna Head, 5609 SW 7^th Street, Des Moines, IA 50315.

Ernst Funeral & Cremation Services of Waukee has been entrusted with Bruce's final arrangements.
