Cora Mae Colver

Cora Mae Colver, who was born June 28, 1940 to Mae Lilian Russel and Charles John Corcoran in Chicago, Illinois, passed away at the age of 80 on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, Iowa.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Ernst Funeral Home.  Cora's service will be live streamed and available to view at: www.facebook.com/ernstfuneralcremation at service time or anytime thereafter.

Cora was also known as “Bonnie” to her amazing childhood friends Joan Shea McMahon and Joan McCabe Drennon, who have been friends since kindergarten and first grade. Cora graduated from Trinity High School and attended Rosary College.  She married James Standish Colver on May 18, 1963. Together they moved from Chicago for job promotions with Amoco Oil to North Carolina and eventually Iowa.  Cora was a stay at home Mom for her girls Chris and Cathy until they were in high school. She returned to the workforce at Drake University and worked her way up to an educational media specialist, which she really enjoyed. She also worked for Principal Financial Group in Des Moines. She volunteered at the girl's schools bringing fun projects and interesting subjects and guest speakers in to the classroom.  Cora, along with Jim,  were assistant soccer coaches to Cathy’s soccer team. She was very generous to her family and friends.  Cora enjoyed many family beach trips in North Carolina and loved dogs, especially the family pets, Stormy and Heidi.

Cora is survived by her daughter Christine Ann Colver, son-in-law David John Kull and grandson David Colver Kull; son-in-law Gregg  Allen Wehrspan, grandsons Zachary James Wehrspan and Nathan Paul Wehrspan.  She was preceded in death by her husband James Standish Colver, daughter Cathleen Marie Wehrspan, sister Lorraine Stone and brothers Charles Corcoran and Richard Corcoran
