Daniel Paul Petersen, 52, was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 29, 1962. After a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer, he died at home in Waukee, Iowa on June 9, 2015. Services will be held at Ernst Funeral Home, 80 NE Dartmoor Drive, Waukee; visitation from noon to 2 pm on Sunday, June 14, 2015, and funeral on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 12:30 pm. All are invited to a 1:00 PM luncheon at the Van Meter Veteran's Reception Center, 910 Main Street, Van Meter. He served in the Air Force and the Air National Guard for 21 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. He also worked for the US Postal Service and as the owner of Dan Petersen Upholstery. Dan enjoyed motorcycling, bicycling, home improvement, the outdoors, and time with family. He took pride in a job well done, no matter the project. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Petersen. Those left missing him include his wife and best friend, Devon Murphy-Petersen, son Andy Petersen, brothers Fred (Patti) Petersen of Dallas, Texas and Max Petersen of Chicago, Illinois, and mother Pat (Dave)Kobe of Kerrville, Texas.
