David Alvin Honken, age 88 of Adel, Iowa, passed away on December 22, 2023, in Dallas Center, Iowa. He was born on November 16, 1935, in Lake Mills, Iowa.
David had an illustrious career that spanned various industries. He worked as a Construction Worker, Store Manager, and Salesman throughout his life. His dedication and hard work were evident in the various roles he took on. He contributed his skills to several establishments including Easters SuperValu in Clear Lake, IA; SuperValu in Des Moines, IA; Associated Grocers of Iowa; and as the Franchise Owner of Pronto Convenience Markets.
One of David's proudest accomplishments was obtaining his private pilot's license at the age of 16. He had a passion for flying and enjoyed taking to the sky whenever he could. Apart from his love for aviation, David was also known for his kindness and willingness to help others. He found immense fulfillment in assisting those in need.
In addition to his successful career and personal achievements, David cherished his family deeply. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to family. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Carol (Dale) Hilgenberg of Waukee, IA; son Mike (Lissa) Honken of Waukee, IA; daughter Linda (Tim) Cook of Adel, IA; grandchildren Tony Hilgenberg of Waukee, IA; Aaron (Joan) Hilgenberg of Waukee, IA; Adam (Tiffany) Hilgenberg of Adel, IA; Nick (Katie) Bagby of Adel, IA; Alana Marean of Waukee, IA; Kyle (Kelsey) Bagby of Grimes, IA; Katie Honken of Des Moines, IA; Skylar Honken of Stoddard, WI; and Courtney Sandy of Holmen, WI. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Nancy (Thompson) Honken; son Steve Honken; parents Alvin and Lillian Honken and brother James Honken.
A visitation will be held in honor of David Alvin Honken on December 30, 2023 at Ernst Funeral Home located at 80 NE Dartmoor Drive in Waukee, IA. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. David will be laid to rest at the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Esofea, WI.
David's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be remembered as a talented individual who brought joy to the lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
