Denise Renee (Harvey) Van Heuveln passed away peacefully at home in Waukee surrounded by her loving husband and daughter following a very long and courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Ernst Funeral Home in Waukee and a Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Waukee United Methodist Church. Interment & luncheon immediately following the service. Denise was the only child born to Francis & Lois (Schmitz) Harvey. She was raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and graduated with honors from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. She obtained her C.P.A designation and had a long and distinguished career. Denise was well known for her hard work and dedication to excellence. Denise married her best friend and love of her life Bart Van Heuveln July 28, 1990. They moved to Seattle, Washington for a couple of years before moving to Iowa in 1993. Bart and Denise’s greatest joy Marisa was born September 7, 2005. Denise worked at The Iowa Clinic for nearly 20 years and was vital in the creation of all the financials and continued growth of the organization. In addition to caring for her family and distinguished professional career, Denise was involved in her church, reading to children at Waukee Elementary School, advocating for animals, cancer research, the caring for cancer patients and families as well as fostering many rescue dogs. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a brave warrior and tireless advocate. Denise is survived by her husband Bart, daughter Marisa and mother Lois Harvey.
