Dolores Irene Slagle died peacefully in her sleep on November 10, 2024, with her loving daughter Linda by her side. Dolores was born February 15, 1932 in Mason City, IA, daughter of Phillip and Clara Pitzenberger. She had three years of high school at Sheffield, IA and graduated Ravenwood, MO in 1950.
Dolores married George LaVain Slagle in October of 1950. She was a postal clerk in Alden, IA as well as a homemaker. During her entire life she enjoyed nature and was fond of animals. Dolores and George enjoyed many vacations, traveling in their RV and fishing at Lake of the Woods.
She was a wonderful wife and mother. She was a member of the Grandview Park Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses since moving to Des Moines in 1975. Dolores was loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her loving daughter, Linda, who was able to move back to Iowa and spend quality time with her mom since 2016.
Dolores is also survived by her sister Karen Hansen; nephews Daniel Miller, David Miller, Gary Frear and Rick Hansen; niece Darla Saxton, brother and sister-in-law Marlin and Sharon Slagle and brother-in-law Roland David. She was preceded in death by her loving husband George in 2015; sisters Phyllis Pitzenberger, Marlene Miller and Virginia Frear; infant brother Clarence and niece, Julie Taylor.
For Dolores’ love of animals, memorial donations may be made to the Animal Rescue League.
No services are scheduled at this time. Ernst Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Waukee has been entrusted with Dolores' final wishes.
