Dwane Howard Fitzsimmons, a revered member of the Granger community, passed away on May 9, 2025, at Kavanagh House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa. Born on October 3, 1946, in Des Moines, Dwane lived a life marked by passion and dedication.
A proud graduate of Granger High School, Dwane began his career at Parker Brothers Games right out of high school, where his enthusiasm and work ethic shone through. He later embraced the role of a talented handyman, pursuing self-employment for most of his life, and leaving a lasting impression on those he served.
Dwane's commitment to service extended beyond his profession; he proudly served in the Iowa National Guard, embodying the spirit of dedication and honor. Throughout his life, he was a long-time resident of Granger, a place he cherished dearly.
His personal interests were as diverse as they were profound. Dwane had a deep love for cars and horses, a passion for studying and learning about history—especially the circus—and an enthusiasm for travel, with Hawaii holding a special place in his heart. He found peace and joy in nature, often spending time outdoors.
Dwane is survived by his nephews, Jason Fitzsimmons of Waukee, Iowa, Nathan Fitzsimmons of Dallas Center, Iowa, and Ryan Fitzsimmons of Waukee, Iowa, as well as his niece, Cherish Rose of Urbandale, Iowa, and cousin, Steve Ellis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Merrilyn Fitzsimmons, and his brother, Greg D. Fitzsimmons.
