Elizabeth Chloe Smith

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for the gift of her life, we remember and honor Elizabeth Chloe Smith, who passed away on August 1, 2026 in Des Moines, Iowa. From the day she was born on April 15, 1996, in Des Moines, Elizabeth had a beautiful face that ended up being filled with 30 years of laughter, warmth, and a love that touched all those fortunate enough to know her.

Elizabeth’s spirit was truly luminous; she was a vibrant soul whose unmistakable hearty laugh could not go unnoticed. Her life was defined by her sociability and an unwavering love for her family and friends. She was, at her core, a people person—someone with an amazing sense of humor, who not only could laugh at herself but had the wonderful knack of bringing joy to those around her. Whether gathering friends for impromptu parties or reaching out to someone in need, Elizabeth’s outgoing nature made everyone feel welcomed and valued.

She adored her family deeply. Elizabeth is survived by her loving mother, Brandi Smith; brother, Cole (Zoila) Smith; and sister, Tabitha (Mikel) Smith of Des Moines; god-sister Kiana (Drew) Faye-Johnson; grandmother, Linda Youngmark and grandfathers, Garry (Shelly) Smith and Tex Norrell. She was preceded in passing by her father, Troy Smith; grandmother, Holly Norrell and her god-brother Dakota Faye.

Elizabeth's kindness was boundless. She had a good-natured tenderness, sometimes to a fault, especially for those who were suffering or being mistreated. Time and again, she put the needs and livelihood of others before her own, defending the vulnerable and offering forgiveness without hesitation. This capacity to forgive and to love fiercely and freely, set her apart as someone truly remarkable.

A true foodie at heart, Elizabeth loved going out to eat and experiencing new restaurants. Just as much, she cherished sweet moments spent at home with her beloved dog Jetta, her favorite companion, with whom she shared countless walks and cozy evenings snuggled on the couch. After graduating Waukee High School in 2014, Elizabeth went on to follow in her parent's footsteps by working at HyVee, first as a kitchen clerk and then as a bartender.

Those who knew Elizabeth will remember her as the spark at every gathering, the friend who never hesitated to reach out, and the loved one who cared, protected, and uplifted—always with humor, compassion, and a generous spirit.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at 10:30 a.m., both at Ernst Funeral Home, 80 NE Dartmoor Drive, Waukee. Family and friends are invited to attend to celebrate her life.
