Ellis Eugene Gibbs, affectionately known as Butch, passed away on October 24, 2025, in Corydon, Iowa, the place of his birth on May 28, 1937. He resided in Des Moines for his entire life, where he was known not only for his dedication to his career but also for his vibrant personality and passion for life.

Butch’s professional journey began with Armstrong Tire and Rubber, where he was a dedicated and faithful employee for many years. After retirement, he embraced his love for motorcycles, finding fulfillment working at a motorcycle shop, as well as for a John Deere dealership. His commitment to hard work and craftsmanship was evident in all his endeavors.

Butch was a devoted family man, marrying the love of his life, Joy Lynn, on February 11, 1961, in Knoxville, Iowa. He is survived by his wife Joy Lynn Gibbs of Des Moines; daughters Elaine (Michael) Gibbs-Claspell of St. George, UT, Jeannie (Jim) Wuthrich of Mapleton, UT, Carla (Kevin) Draper of Adel, IA, and Kathy (Michael) Loveridge of Des Moines, IA. He cherished his grandchildren: Thatcher (Elizabeth) Claspell, Ari (Jeff) Terry, Ale (Seth) Hall, James (Ava) Wuthrich, Shannon (Demeko) Cheers, Tasha (Dan) Loveridge, and Tyler (Katlyn) Rozeske. Butch proudly embraced his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather, enjoying the delightful company of his seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his family, Butch found joy in various hobbies and interests. He was an avid motorcyclist who relished road trips around Iowa and beyond, frequently visiting Colorado and attending concerts. The Iowa State Fair was a highlight of his year, as he looked forward to spending multiple days indulging in its festivities. His love for family was unwavering, and he treasured the yearly reunions that brought everyone together.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Wilda and Clarence Gibbs, along with three siblings and his granddaughter, Maddie Draper.

A Graveside Service to celebrate the life of Ellis Eugene Gibbs will be held at Sharon Cemetery (West of Hwy. 14 off of Vale Road - between Chariton and Corydon), on Saturday, November 29, 2025, starting at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to one's favorite charity in memory of Butch.
