Fred Charles Krefting

   Fred Charles Krefting (66) passed away of Primary Progressive Aphasia on December 7, 2022.

   Fred was born the oldest child to Ken and Ellen Krefting on December 3, 1956. He grew up in Barton, North Dakota and attended high school at Bismarck High School, graduating in 1975. After graduating from the University of North Dakota, he married Denise Marie Herbel of Hebron, North Dakota on May 31st, 1980. Fred and Denise worked in North Dakota, then moved to Minneapolis, MN where Fred worked for Four Phase Systems as a Systems Analyst and Unix Programmer. He transferred to Des Moines, Iowa where he worked for KVI and Principal Financial Group in Computer Systems. He retired from Principal in 2018.

   Fred and Denise have two children Kevin Charles Krefting (m.Lana Pralle Krefting) and Jessica Marie Krefting and one granddaughter Kensley Krefting who are all the loves of his life. After living in Des Moines and Waukee, the family built a home in Grimes, Iowa.

   Outdoors has always been Fred's happy place, spending much time hunting, fishing and at the couple’s cabin in Southern Iowa. He loved sharing these things with his family, spending time at the lake and boundary waters in Canada.

   Fred is survived by his wife Denise, children Kevin (Lana) Krefting of Urbandale, Iowa, Jessica Krefting of Grimes, Iowa; his granddaughter Kensley Krefting of Urbandale, Iowa; his brother Brian (Cheryl) Krefting and nieces Courtney Gilbert and Kiersten Krefting of Bloomington, Minnesota. His mother Ellen Krefting and his father Ken Krefting preceded him in death.

   Memory of Life Services will be at Ernst Funeral Home in Waukee on Friday December 16 with visitation at 1:00pm with service to follow at 2:00pm. No flowers please. Memorials to the National Aphasia Association or the Northwestern Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology in Fred’s name is appreciated.  The service will be live-streamed and can be viewed via: www.facebook.com/ernstfuneralcremation.
