Hilda J Aplin

Hilda June Aplin passed away on June 15, 2024 at Kavanagh House on 56th, surrounded by her loving family in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born to J.T. and Magelene Doss on June 7, 1944, in Lafayette, Tennessee.

Throughout her life, Hilda was known for her dedication to her work and her passion for helping others. Her career as a Sales Clerk, Inventory Reorder Specialist and Independent Contractor with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) allowed her to serve her country with pride and commitment. She married the love of her life, Robert Aplin, on February 15, 1964 in Ringgold, Georgia. Being a military family, they were always on the move and resided over the years at Ft. Campbell, Ft. Bliss, Travis AFB, Homestead AFB, Germany, Albuquerque and eventually settling in Waukee to be near family. During her time in Europe, Hilda loved to see new places and traveled extensively. Outside of work, she found joy in fishing, RVing and camping, as well as volunteering with the local Optimist Club activities and at the USO Center at Camp Dodge.

Hilda will be dearly missed by her surviving family members: her husband Robert Aplin of Waukee; son Timothy (Amie) Aplin of Ithaca, MI; daughter Constance (Frank) Williams of Urbandale, IA; grandchildren Tejay Aplin, Colton Aplin, Matthew Aplin, Allison Aplin, Ava Williams and Frankie Williams; four great-grandchildren; niece Tammy Driver; nephew David Flynn; as well as many additional family and friends.

She is now reunited in heaven with her parents, sister Linda Gayle Doss-Flynn and brother Jerry Doss, whom all preceded her in death.

Services to honor and celebrate Hilda's life will be held at the Lutheran Church of Hope in Waukee on August 10, 2024. The visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a Celebration of Life ceremony at 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed in Hilda's memory to: EveryStep Kavanagh House, 900 56th Street, Des Moines, IA 50312 (www.everystep.org).
