Janet Lathrop

   Janet Christina Lathrop, age 87, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at her home in Waukee, Iowa.  A graveside service will be held Friday, June 2, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at the Waukee Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Janet’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

   Janet was born in Davenport, IA to Russel and Lillian (Denniston) Sours on May 16, 1936.  She lived most of her life in Cedar Rapids, with short residencies in Miami and Georgia as well.  She retired from Quaker Oats after 25 years of dedicated service.

   Janet was an avid reader, loved animals and enjoyed playing BINGO and slot machines.  She treasured the time she spent with her family playing board games, with Yahtzee and Aggravation being some of her favorites.  She also enjoyed watching game shows, but above all, she loved being a mom and grandmother.

   Janet is survived by her children: Marsha (Dan Herridge) Nichols, Bobbie Nichols, Mike (Nancy) Nichols, Mitch Nichols (Janie Reyes), Brenda Roman and Mark Lathrop; brother James Sours and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a daughter Kathy Nichols and brother Jerry Hill.

   Ernst Funeral & Cremation Services of Waukee has been entrusted with Janet's final arrangements.
