Jasper "Sam" Lee Thomas

Jasper "Sam"Lee Thomas, age 92, passed away March 14, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center in West Des Moines, IA.  He was born on January 10, 1929 in Brazil, Indiana to Levi and Ida (Clark) Thomas.

Sam served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  In 1954, he married Delores Kathryn (Kay) Williams.  Together, they raised a daughter and two sons.  Sam retired from John Deere after 39 years of service.  He enjoyed playing cribbage, mushroom hunting, camping and fishing.  He especially enjoyed telling fish stories.

Sam will be missed by his daughter Deb (Roger) Anderson of Waukee; son Mike (Kim) Thomas of Iron River, Wisconsin; grandchildren Josh (Brooke) Anderson, Ryan (Tiffany) Anderson, Christy Thomas, April Thomas and Allen Thomas; great-grandchildren Jordyan Thomas, Kaylie Thomas, Derek Stewart and Wyatt Anderson.

Sam was preceded in death by his wife Kay; son Jeff Thomas; sisters Verna Fortin, Evelyn Johnston, Mary Elwell and Marie Pell; brothers Richard Thomas and Ray Thomas and his parents.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 19, 2021 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by Funeral Services at 2:00 p.m. both at Ernst Funeral Home, Waukee.  The use of a personal face covering and social distancing is requested.  Interment to follow at Waukee Cemetery.
