Jean Marie Buchheit

   Jean Marie Buchheit of Clive, IA, passed away at the age of 82 after a short illness at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA on Monday, June 19, 2023.

   Jean Marie was born to Joseph and Clara (Huegerich) Beyerink on June 5, 1941, in Carroll County, IA.  She graduated from Glidden High School in 1959 and worked as a secretary at Carroll High School.  She married the love of her life, David Buchheit on September 3, 1971, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll.  After spending time in Chicago, IL, Waukee, IA, and Schaumburg, IL, Jean returned to the Des Moines area in 1989.  She retired from Sears Credit as a fraud investigator and made her encore career as a price coordinator for JC Penney Home Store.

   Jean was an avid gardener, who loved her flowers and vegetables, especially tomatoes, and joyfully passed along her green thumb.  She was a passionate baker and quilter.  She won numerous awards showing her quilts at local fairs.  She enjoyed collecting and displaying P. Buckley Moss paintings.

   She was loved by a large family including numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and many good friends.

   Jean is survived by her daughters Pam (Tim) Thompson of Altoona, IA, and Michelle (Robert) Bowling of Fishers, IN; as well as five grandchildren whom she adored; Ben, Cami, Bo, Matt and Nate. 

   She was preceded in death by her husband David Buchheit; grandparents Henry and Anna (Hulsing) Beyerink and John and Helen (Baumhover) Huegerich; parents Joseph and Clara (Huegerich) Beyerink; and brother Duane Beyerink.

   Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ernst Funeral Home, Waukee, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, both at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 421 East Bluff Street, Carroll, IA.  Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

 Ernst Funeral & Cremation Services of Waukee has been entrusted with Jean's final arrangements.
