Waukee

Keith John Larson, born on May 3, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away at his home on September 27, 2024, in Waukee, Iowa. A dedicated and passionate professional, Keith worked for PPG Industries throughout his career, retiring at the age of 55. He began his journey at a PPG paint store, where he demonstrated remarkable talent and ambition. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, ultimately serving as the District Sales Manager for PPG's largest district in Detroit, Michigan, and collaborating with many prominent car manufacturers.

In 1973, Keith moved to Apple Valley, MN and bought his first home for his two children and wife. He was transferred to Urbandale, IA in 1975 where he went on to raise his two children. Once his kids went to college, in 1992, he moved to Milwaukee, WI, for a new Sales Manager position before moving to Cincinnati, OH in 1994 for another Sales Manager position. In 1995, Keith moved to Detroit to be a District Manager and was in Detroit until 2013 when he moved back to the Des Moines area, residing in Waukee, to be near his children and grandchildren.

Keith was known for his loving and generous nature, embodying the role of a devoted father and grandfather. He was indeed the rock of his family, always present during life's challenges and celebrations. He offered wisdom and guidance in a myriad of areas, providing thoughtful advice about cars, finances, and life in general. A constant source of support, Keith never hesitated to return phone calls or lend an ear to those in need.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Keith possessed an engineer's mind and a creative spirit. He held two patents, one for a saw guide and another for an innovative standing arcade cabinet for a home gaming counsel. His ingenuity extended to crafting furniture, creating elaborate costumes for his children such as Mr. and Mrs. Pac Man, and designing playful racing cars complete with working steering wheels and brakes that provided hours of entertainment for his kids. He actively engaged in their lives, roller skating and playing tennis with them when they were young, and enjoyed going on walks as a family, cherishing every moment together.

After his stroke, Keith created a ramp in his garage to use with his walker. He also hired a handy man to put grab bars around his house so he could continue to live independently. He loved doing puzzles and going out to dinner, lunch or breakfast with his kids and grandkids. He also always lead the organization of birthday and holiday celebrations for the entire family.

Keith is survived by his son, Michael (Jennifer) Larson of Waukee; daughter, Michelle (Jeff Sanders) Sanders of Urbandale; grandchildren, Alyssa Larson of St. Louis, MO, Melanie Merhar of Brooklyn Park, MN, Samatha Larson of Waukee, Tyler Merhar of Urbandale and Brody Larson of Waukee; sister, Glory (Dale) Kozicky of Maple Grove, MN; and nephew, Matthew Kozicky. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lauren and Marian Larson; brothers, Larry and Curt Larson; and sister-in-law, Jan Larson.

Keith will be laid to rest at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church Columbarium in Maple Grove, MN during a private family service. As we remember Keith, we honor a life well-lived, marked by love, creativity, and unwavering support for his family. His legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
