Kenneth Ellsworth Riche

Kenneth “Kenny” Riche, age 71, passed away on August 14, 2026, surrounded by love, with Becky, his wife and best friend of 47 years, by his side.

Kenny was born on September 17, 1954, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Dickie and Shirley Riche. On November 18, 1978, he married Becky, the love of his life, and together they built a life rooted in family, hard work, and unwavering devotion. In 1988, Kenny moved his family into the home he built in Van Meter, Iowa, and remained there until his passing. After 23 years with the Iowa Department of Public Defense at Camp Dodge, Kenny retired in 2019 as a carpenter.

Kenny was known for his ability to build, repair, and create just about anything. If you could dream it, he could find a way to make it happen. A skilled carpenter and problem solver, he loved staying busy and found joy in helping family and friends whenever they needed him. He especially cherished the time spent working on projects, including several home additions, with his son, Eric, creating not only lasting handiwork but lasting memories. His talents were matched only by the generosity of his heart.

Those who knew Kenny best will remember his strength of character, selfless nature, gentle spirit, and sense of humor. Whether as a husband, father, friend, or neighbor, he gave freely of himself and did so without ever complaining. He was always the first to check in on others, asking how work was going, how they were feeling, or simply how life was treating them. A lifelong NASCAR fan and stock car driver in his younger years, Kenny also had a passion for playing the drums, performing with several bands throughout his life. Through his compassion, laughter, and willingness to help, he left behind a legacy of love, friendship, and hard work.

Kenny is survived by his beloved wife, Becky Riche; his son, Eric Riche (Chelsey); his daughter, Angie Riche; his daughter-in-law, Erica Ritter; his cherished grandchildren, Willow, Easton, Oaken, Loren and Lex; his great-grandchild, River; his brother, Roger Riche (Jodie); his brother-in-law, Paul Bowers; many nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dickie and Shirley Riche; his sons, Craig Riche and Don Ritter; his sister, Dianna Bowers; and other beloved family members.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2026 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m., both at Ernst Funeral Home, Waukee. A reception with refreshments will follow the memorial service. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose life was defined by hard work, humility, generosity, laughter, and love.
