Lynn Irvin Gressley, 85, of Waukee, Iowa, passed away at home on September 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 28, 1941, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Irvin and Mildred Gressley.
After graduating high school, Lynn attended Estherville Junior College. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After his honorable discharge from the military, Lynn went on to build a career as a Grounding Engineer for Northwestern Bell, later becoming CenturyLink, and also worked for Vendnet of Waukee.
On June 19, 1965, Lynn married the love of his life, Karen Janice Thu, in Ruthven, Iowa. They resided in Sioux City before making Waukee their home in 1985. Together they built a life centered on family, commitment, and lasting love.
Lynn enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and the satisfaction of a job well done. He was amazing at crossword puzzles, with confidence high enough to complete them in ink. He also enjoyed reading, car maintenance, gardening, camping and carpentry, interests that reflected both his sharp mind and the enjoyment of staying busy with the basics.
Lynn is survived by his wife, Karen Gressley of Waukee; his son, David (Cindy) Gressley of Ankeny; his daughter, Julie (Eric) Ronnebaum of West Des Moines along with 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Lynn was preceded in death by his father, Irvin Gressley; his mother, Mildred Gressley; and his sister, Pat Kennard.
Visitation will be held on September 14, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., both at Ernst Funeral Home, 80 NE Dartmoor Drive, Waukee, IA 50263. Lynn will be laid to rest at the Waukee Cemetery immediately following the service.
Memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) in Lynn's memory.
