Nancy Lou Duey

Nancy L. Duey (Scott), age 77, of Adel, IA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday May 9, 2026.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Philip Duey of Adel; son Christopher (Darci) Duey of Johnston, daughter Jennifer (Christopher) Covill of Urbandale, son Stephen (Marcie) Duey of Chicago, and Mathew (Jessica) Duey of Los Angeles; fifteen grandchildren, Jack Duey, Madeline Duey, Cael Duey, Carson Duey, Paul Covill (Bridget), Alex Covill, Connor (Meghan) Nelson, Quinn Covill, Sam Covill, Michael Covill, Matthew Covill, Katie Covill, Charlotte Duey, Henry Duey, and Hannah Duey; six great grandchildren; her sisters Kathy Scott, Mary Scott, Lisa (Wayne) Ellis, and her brother Paul (Janice) Scott; many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Darrell Scott and Frances Scott (Buckner).

Nancy, a native of Audubon County, began her education in Viola, IA. She graduated from Audubon High School (’66), Iowa State University (’70), and Drake University (‘95) achieving a Master of Science in Education. She was a lifelong educator serving as an early childhood teacher, administrator, practicum evaluator, and mentor to other teachers. Nancy believed wholeheartedly in the promise of education, especially for young children, and dedicated much of her life to that promise.

Nancy had a full and active life of giving to her family, neighbors, and community, donating her time to the Friends of Library in Waukee and the Evelyn Davis Foundation. She enjoyed meeting friends for coffee, cards, and meals. She took great pride in her home, gardens, and flowers. She was an avid baker who always had cookies waiting to greet visitors. Nancy was very dedicated to her grandchildren and loved watching them grow, learn, and attending their activities as much as she could.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A visitation will be held Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and a service in celebration of Nancy's life will be held Friday, May 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior and luncheon to follow, all at Ernst Funeral Home, 80 NE Dartmoor Drive, in Waukee.
