Ronald Dean Ohm age 90, passed peacefully on April 30, 2026 of natural causes.
Visitation and service details are pending. Please check back later.
On April 22, 1936 Sidney and Ethel Ohm welcomed their only child, a boy Ronald in Floyd Iowa.
Ron grew up and attended school in the small town of Floyd. Ron's father Sid and mother Ethel owned and operated Sid's Saddle Shop on the main street downtown Floyd. Sid's Saddle Shop was the gathering spot for so many local people to just sit and chat as Sid worked on saddles, boots, belts, etc. The scent of leather was apparent as soon as you walked in the door. Ron spent many a day stopping in and joining the group. He was fondly known as "Sid's boy."
Ron graduated from Floyd High School and left the small town of Floyd for Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa to attend college. This is where he met the love of his life, Jacquelyn Ann Rathbun (Jacki) The two were married on July 15, 1956. Ron graduated from Upper Iowa and started his teaching career in Gladbrook, Iowa. Ron taught high school mathematics. Students remembered their teacher of the year as a very patient man; teaching even the most challenged students. Gladbrook was where he and Jacki started their family, welcoming a daughter and a son. Ron continued his math teaching in Ann Arbor Michigan. Here they added to their family another son. Ron eventually wanted to venture out from teaching and moved his career to computer programming. Ron and family moved back to their home state of Iowa where he held various systems analyst positions.
Ron and Jacki decided to make a change in the mid 80s and became motel owners of the Park Motel in Denison Iowa for several years. An impromptu adventure they both never forgot and had so many stories. Then it was back to the Des Moines area and computer programming where they made their home in Waukee and where he retired.
After retirement Ron began walking for exercise. Soon he had a group of neighbors joining him daily for a walk and chat. A social gathering he looked forward to each and every day.
Ron had strong values, a tremendous sense of humor, was kind, patient and completely dedicated to his family.
Ron is survived by his wife Jacki of 69 years, daughter Renae (Mike), son Stacey (Wanda), son Jay (Kim), grandson Stephen, granddaughter Michelle and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Sidney Ohm and mother Ethel Ohm.
Ron will always be fondly remembered as the nicest guy you could ever meet and will never be forgotten.
