Ronald Joseph Zarkowski, affectionately known as Ron, was born on September 13, 1944, in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away peacefully at his home in Waukee, Iowa, on March 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Ron was a talented carpenter who specialized in both commercial and residential construction. His craftsmanship will be remembered by many who had the privilege to work alongside him or benefit from his skillful hands. A proud 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, Ron demonstrated dedication and commitment not only in his professional life but also to his country.

In 2002, Ron and his wife made the move to Waukee, Iowa, after residing in Omaha, Nebraska, and Onaga, Kansas. He found joy in various hobbies and interests including Nebraska Football, trapping, hunting, fishing, and woodworking. However, above all of these passions, Ron’s greatest pride was in his family.

On July 26, 1968, Ron married the love of his life, Annette Copeland, in Omaha, Nebraska. Together, they built a beautiful family, and Ron was a devoted husband to Annette. He is survived by his beloved wife, Annette Zarkowski of Waukee; his son Kyle (Jana) Zarkowski of Clive; his daughter Kimberly (Steven) Scott of Adel; and his cherished grandchildren, Katlyne (Josh) Jacobs of Waukee, Alexander Zarkowski andTrevor Zarkowski both of Clive, Samuel Stous of West Des Moines and Sariah Scott of Adel, along with his great-granddaughter, Emma Jacobs. Ron is also survived by his brother Richard Zarkowski of Omaha, sisters Cheryl Hicks and Judith (Jerry) Killion both from Wasilla, Alaska. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Shirley Zarkowski; great-grandson Luke Jacobs and siblings Paul, Edward, John and Susan.

Visitation will be held at Ernst Funeral Home in Waukee, Iowa, on March 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will take place the following day, March 7, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 400 SE Pleasant View Drive, Waukee, at 11:00 AM, followed by interment with full military honors at Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Ronald Joseph Zarkowski will be missed dearly, but his legacy of love, service, and craftsmanship will continue to inspire all who knew him.
